Comprehensive Peace in Sudan Act - HR5061, S2781

To: Representative Simmons
Date: Saturday, November 20 2004

Dear Representative Simmons:

6 year old Hadida from World Vision site
LEARN MORE about the plight of the refugees of Durfur.

We must ensure that this life-and-death issue isn't lost during the post-election rush.

Our nation has stated its commitment to stop genocide. Now is our time to act.

Sincerely,
Joyce Thomas

I am writing to strongly urge you to support the Comprehensive Peace in Sudan Act (HR5061 and S2781). With more than 70,000 people dead and more than 1.5 million people displaced, our nation must lead the way to take every action possible to stop this human tragedy from escalating.

The Comprehensive Peace in Sudan Act will pressure the government of Sudan to stop terrorizing its citizens through the use of its Janjaweed militias and calls for the president to impose economic sanctions upon those who are responsible for the atrocities in the Darfur region. Equally important, it calls for $200 million in additional humanitarian aid to assist refugees in Darfur and Chad.

This legislation has already passed both houses of Congress unanimously.
